Our Trip

Unlike sensible hikers, we won't be staying at a Bed and Breakfast each night and having our bags ferried to the next town.......
Our goal is to carry our packs the full 310 km. Madness??

Believe it or not, but there is a method in our madness. We are hoping that by taking our tent we won't have to book in and can walk at our leisure. If we need to spend extra days in one place then this won't mess up our plans. We won't need to rush to the next town to ensure we won't lose our booking.
Well okay, we will stay in a B&B (or similar) on our rest days - if there are vacancies....

The holiday plans so far...

tent flightcentre tickets
Making sure the tent is okay.... Booking the tickets...... Woo hoo, we have tickets! Di and Emma.
tickets
Ticket is in my hand...

April
About to do another test pack and this time there is some food to go in. Turns out it's cheaper to buy freeze dried food here in Australia, so we will pack and carry as much as possible.
Tickets for the Eurostar have been purchased. Unfortunately, we missed out on the upgrade and champagne so cattle class it is.

March
It's getting closer and closer.
Many merino tops have been purchased and so less clothing required. 12 kg looking better...

February
Test packing number 1. OUCH. 15 kg and no food. Need to cull some clothes.

January
The second set of maps have arrived. I prefer these ones and Di likes the other ones, so no arguments over the maps!!
I find the Harvey maps have a greater attention to detail as it shows a wider area around the track and it also shows the gradients.

December
Christmas is coming and does that mean eating............

November
The first lot of the Coast to Coast maps have arrived.

October
Our books have arrived - signed by Julia Bradbury and all. But when I ordered them, only Di and I were doing the walk so PO missed out on one, but alas she has taken mine to read so I can't even put a picture up - bragging ......

Sunday 6th - Hiccup number 2 has been sorted and Petroula has now booked her ticket. Now all she needs to do is get well, as although she has lost her weight and is fit, she has managed to damage a nerve in her back. Lots of RnR for her!

September
Saturday 28th - Dianne just rang. The tickets are purchased. Woo Hoo. Now to prepare for stage 2 - Organise accommodation in Paris and London.
Friday 27th - Hiccup number two: Turns out Petroula hasn't had her holiday leave approved and the dog confirmed to stay in the kennels. So she will have to just play catch up sometime down the track.
Tuesday 24th - kidney results are back. Unfortunately her kidney hasn't grown back, but the one she does have is in excellent condition. Great news for her and me!
Well being her bestest friend in the world I have no choice but to offer her one of mine.......
Sept 23rd 2013 - Hiccup number one: Dianne has been informed she has rather high blood pressure. All of the blood tests have come back with excellent results. They (the doctors) are unsure of why, and so more scans to be had. Could this be the result of having only 1 kidney??.
Well Dianne made the phone call tonight (Monday September 23, 2013). She has an appointment for Thursday to see Emma our lovely travel agent, in Sandy Bay (Hobart). The flights have been released - finally!! and today my passport arrived. Win Win.
